ONE TREE PLANTED

One Tree Planted is a non-profit organization whose global mission is to reforest our planet, provide education and awareness of the importance of trees in our ecosystem, and inspire commitment and action. Their goal is to allow donors to easily plant trees in vulnerable areas that need support.

WHY ARE TREES IMPORTANT FOR THE ENVIRONMENT?

Trees help clean up the air we breathe, filter the water we drink and provide habitat for more than 80% of the world's terrestrial biodiversity. Forests provide jobs for more than 1.6 billion people, absorb harmful carbon from the atmosphere and are key ingredients in 25% of all drugs. Have you ever taken an aspirin? It comes from the bark of a tree!

Health Did you know that patients hospitalized with rooms overlooking trees recover faster than those who do not have the same vision? Trees help reduce stress and anxiety, and allow us to reconnect with nature. In addition, the shade provided by the tree cover helps protect our skin from the ever-increasing hardness of the sun. Climate Trees help cool the planet by sucking and storing harmful greenhouse gases such as carbon dioxide in their trunks, branches and leaves - and by releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. In cities, trees can reduce ambient temperatures up to 8° Celsius. With more than 50% of the world's population living in cities - a number that is expected to increase to 66% by 2050 - pollution and overheating are becoming a real threat. SOCIAL IMPACT From arborists to loggers and researchers, the job opportunities offered by the forestry industry are endless. However, we do not only rely on trees for work. Sustainable forest farming provides wood to build houses and shelters, and firewood for cooking and heating. Food-producing trees provide fruits, nuts, berries and leaves for human and animal consumption, and offer a powerful nutritional punch.

FIGURES

46% of the world's forests are already destroyed Every 1 minute the man destroys a forest area the size of 48 football fields The destruction of tropical forests accounts for about 20% of greenhouse gas emissions 80,000 acres disappear every day 3.5 out of 10 trees are transformed into paper pulp 80% of plants and animals live in forests and lose their habitats due to deforestation. 28,000 species are expected to disappear in the coming years
